52 weeks with the Bloom Fab 15 | Week 1 | Self Portrait

I am very excited to say my Project 52 effort has morphed into joining a group of fabulous photographers as part of the “Bloom Fab 15″ though maybe it should be renamed “The Fab 15 & Cara” as I am far from fab with my current skills but striving for it. This group have come together through the amazing Bloom Forum, easily one of my favourite places to visit on the web! Each week we will be exploring a new theme and I know I am going to find it inspiring.

Week 1 called for the very challenging and somewhat confronting task of a self portrait. I hate seeing myself in images, I am sure I don’t have that many wrinkles in real life?

This challenge got me really thinking about who I was? I wanted a piece of who I was to be part of the image not just what I look like, in this thought process I realised how much of myself has been quashed over the years. This new year is bringing many changes and for me one of those changes will be rediscovering myself. As part of this thought process I did not want my image to be entirely clear, as such I attempted to photograph myself through a rain drenched window (disaster), added hose water for even more obscurity (even bigger disaster). I threw about ideas of a shadow making up most of the image, only to be met by a week that made up one of the wettest the state I live in has seen for this time of the year. In the end I decided to use my reflection as it is very much a time of reflection for me. When my little monsters started to parade through my attempt, I could not but help have them be part of it. Oh and the boxes were kept in the image as they are part of my story, we will be moving late next month and packing has started!

For a look at the images from the “Fab 15″ follow the links at the end of each photographers post. To start with visit Ali Crane her images are amazing and you will love looking through her site.
